About Midtown Grill

The Midtown Grill at 1218 Main Ave. in Downtown Clifton may look a little different on the outside, but inside is where the real change is.  While you'll still find the same great fare that Cliftonites have come to expect for decades, the new owners have expanded the menu with some interesting, innovative items.

Gyros, chicken, salads, breakfast, desserts and an expanded menu have been added for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Hours of operation have been lengthened.  Things are different here there days.

Changes began on December 16, 1998, when the new young owners, Gerasimo (Jerry) Dimitratos and Dimitrious (Jimmy) Doris moved in.  A month after they took it over, they decided to give the famous sign and logo a facelift.

What they’re eating up in droves the Gyro, Midtown Grill’s most popular item on their menu.

“Not too many restaurants in the area have the Gyro,” sad Jerry Dimitratos.  “We’re the only ones around who have it and who make it fresh.  All our food is fresh, all the time.”

But the Gyro is only   one of  the secrets to Midtown Grill’s success.

“We wanted it to look better, so we put neon signs outside and in the windows to attract more attention,” said Jimmy Doris

The change has helped there already thriving business.  But it’s really the buzz from their good food that attracts the crowds.  During the hours of noon and 2pm, they usually have over 100 customers on any given day.

They are also known as the home of the Texas Weiner.   And don’t forget about Midtown’s famous chili recipe.

The sauce was developed by the original owners, Tommy and John Foukas, the two brothers, who started Midtown Grill back in 1959.

Both Jimmy and Jerry agreed that the menu will continue to evolve as patrons offer their culinary suggestions.

Right now, freshly made Greek salads have become popular.  Then there’s chef’s salad, tossed salad and greens with grilled chicken.  Chicken sandwiches and platters have been getting raves, too.

Some of their trademark lunch and dinner favorites include Texas Wieners,  French fries with gravy and cheese and of course – their new standard, Gyros.  “People like to come back and try lots of different things,” said Jimmy Doris.

With four other employees in addition to the two owners, both Jimmy and Jerry know that they will have to keep innovating to stay successful.

“I like working hard and serving the people the best that I can,” said Jimmy Doris, “Plus we try to make everything fast.”
